Feature Overview

Marking a review as spam in PromoRepublic’s Reputation Manager and Inbox is a helpful feature to manage incoming reviews and inbox conversations. It allows internal teams to flag content that may require further investigation. However, it’s important to understand what marking as spam does and does not do. Please go on reading this article.

Marking as spam is a useful internal tool in PromoRepublic but does not remove reviews from the source site. It's important to use this feature alongside external reporting on Google or Facebook when necessary.

What Happens When You Mark a Review as Spam?

  1. Internal Flagging

👉 Marking a review or inbox message as spam applies an internal flag visible only to the users in your PromoRepublic account. It helps your team identify which reviews or messages may need further attention.

  2. Sorting by Spam Reviews

👉You can filter and manage reviews or inbox conversations flagged as spam through the dashboard. This helps prioritize responses and actions.

  3. Not Visible to the Public

👉 Marking as spam does not affect the visibility of the review or message on the original platform (e.g., Google, Facebook). The flag is purely internal and doesn’t alter the content on the source site.

What Marking as Spam Does NOT Do

  1. It Doesn’t Remove the Review

☝️ Marking a review as spam does not delete or hide the review from the original source (e.g., Google, Facebook). It simply hides it within PromoRepublic's Review Widgets internally.

  2. No Direct Action on Review Sites

☝️ PromoRepublic relies on external platforms like Google and Facebook to evaluate and handle spam reviews. Marking a review as spam in PromoRepublic does not trigger any automatic actions on the review site itself.

  3. Doesn’t Impact Analytics

☝️ Marking a review as spam does not affect your overall analytics. This means that even if you choose not to respond to flagged reviews, your engagement or response metrics won’t drop as a result. This functionality will be updated in the next iteration.

Handling Spam Reviews Effectively

We'd like to share some tips with you on how to handle spam reviews.

  1. Report Directly on Review Platforms

If you believe a review is spam or inappropriate, it’s recommended that you report it on the source site, such as Google, Facebook, and other platforms. They have processes for reviewing and removing spam.

    • 👉 For reporting on Google

      1. Google does not allow PromoRepublic or any other third-party company to remove reviews. You can, however, flag the review on Google for violating content guidelines. If Google determines a flagged review is in violation, they will remove it.

      2. Note☝️: The more reports that are given to a review, the higher the likelihood that Google will end up removing it.

      3. To flag a Google review is pretty simple:

        1. Locate the review you want to flag within your Google Business Profile. If you find the review from within the platform, click on "Open in a new tab."

        2. Click the Flag icon next to the review.

        3. Follow the onscreen prompts and click Submit when Finished.

        4. If a lot of time has passed and the review is still published, you can follow up with Google Support by submitting a ticket here: https://support.google.com/business/gethelp

    • Note☝️: Every site has strict guidelines surrounding the removal of reviews. Unless the review violates those guidelines, they will likely not remove it.

    • 👉 For reporting on Facebook

      1. Facebook does not generally remove reviews. You can, however, flag the review for violating content guidelines. If Facebook determines a flagged review is in violation, they will remove it.

      2. To flag a Facebook review should be easy:

        1. Locate the review you want to flag. If you find the review from within the platform, click Open in the new tab. You must be logged into the source site.

        2. Click the ellipses icon next to the recommendation, and click Report Post.

        3. Select the reason for the report and follow the onscreen prompts.

    • Note☝️: Every site has strict guidelines surrounding the removal of reviews. Unless the review clearly violates those guidelines, they will likely not remove it.

  2. Use PromoRepublic for Internal Management

The “Mark as Spam” feature is an internal tool, allowing teams to track and manage reviews without affecting public visibility. It is available for both reviews and inbox conversations, ensuring a streamlined approach to managing customer feedback.

Upcoming Changes

👉 In the next platform update, only admins or assigned users will have the ability to mark reviews or inbox conversations as spam. This helps control who can hide certain content and ensures better oversight.

👉 The next iteration will include changes to ensure that flagged reviews don't negatively affect your performance numbers, even if left unaddressed.
