Canva Formats and Limitations
Our Post Editor supports videos up to 500 MB and images/GIFs up to 15 MB. If your file exceeds these limits, youâll receive an error message.
1. Images
Supported Formats: JPEG.
Social Media Channel Limitations: While importing images is seamless, note that some social media platforms may require videos for specific post types (e.g., Instagram Stories). You'll receive an error message if you attempt to use an image where a video is required. Edit the content in Canva and re-import it in the correct format to proceed.
Check this article to learn more about different social platform requirements.
2. Videos
Supported Format: MP4.
Quality Options: Videos in resolutions such as 480p, 720p or 1080p can be imported. However, high-bitrate videos may face slight compression during the import process.
Video Length: Imported videos are limited to a maximum of 3 minutes.
Audio Limitations: Audio tracks in imported videos remain as-is. PromoRepublic does not currently support editing or removing audio.
3. GIFs
Supported Format: GIF only.
Conversion Requirement: PromoRepublic does not automatically convert GIFs into MP4. You will receive an error message if a GIF format is unsupported for your selected social media channels. To proceed, convert the GIF into MP4 using Canva and re-import it.
4. Other Unsupported Formats
Files in unsupported formats cannot be imported into PromoRepublic. You will receive an error message and must re-export the design in Canva using a supported format (JPEG, MP4, or GIF) before importing it again.
5. Carousel Imports
Maximum Items Imported: PromoRepublic supports up to 10 items per carousel. The actual number of items imported depends on the limitations of the selected social media platform.
For example, Instagram allows up to 10 images per carousel, while other platforms may vary.
Mixed Content Handling: If your carousel contains mixed formats (images, videos, and GIFs), PromoRepublic will:
Import up to 10 images, or
Import 1 video/GIF (depending on platform rules).
Error Handling: If your carousel exceeds platform limits or contains unsupported formats, PromoRepublic will display an error message. You will need to adjust the carousel in Canva and re-import it.
