How to select a video thumbnail

Video is becoming one of the most popular content types on social media, and that's why video clips have to be worked on before they are posted.

In PromoRepublic you can schedule videos to Facebook, Linkedin, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram Business and TikTok. We don't support video posting to Instagram personal and Google Business Profile.

In order to upload a video, find the appropriate button in the post editor form.

The uploading process might take some seconds. It is important not to close this page. You can see the status in the top left-hand corner. The green sign means you can proceed further: schedule, publish, or save the video.

You'll see the preview in a couple of seconds because the video needs to be converted on the PromoRepublic server first and then on the social platform end.Β

Once the video is converted, you'll see the Edit Video Details button. Clicking it will direct you to the video editor. In the next step, you can scroll through the ribbon and find the appropriate frame. Also, you can select a custom preview by selecting an image on your computer.

This thumbnail will be used later on in the Calendar preview and on social media when posted. If needed, it is possible to select the thumbnail image later after you schedule the post.

Note these minor nuances when preparing video content on our platform:

  • The thumbnail image cannot be selected from Post Ideas.

  • One video is allowed to be posted at a time.

  • You can't include different content types in one post (for example, a video and an image).

  • You can't edit the file name inside PromoRepublic, so change the video title before uploading it.

  • When re-posting a video post, the video itself won't be re-published, but only the text, if any. So, you'll need to re-upload the file.

Video posts may fail to be published. In most cases, the problem is related to inappropriate video parameters, such as:

  1. Duration

  2. Video bitrate

  3. Aspect ratio

Let's review the video requirements of the social platforms' API. Please note that video requirements may be different for native direct posting and via a third-party service like PromoRepublic.

Video posting to Instagram Business

Below are the technical requirements for videos that you publish through PromoRepublic to Instagram business pages. Posts that don't meet these technical specifics won't be published and will be marked red in the Calendar.

MOV or MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14), no edit lists, moov atom at the front of the file

Video length for reels

3 seconds minimum, 15 minutes maximum

Video length for stories

maximum 60 seconds

Aspect ratio

Between 4 / 5 and 16 / 9

Maximum columns (horizontal pixels) is 1920

Frame rate

23-60 FPS

Bit rate

VBR, 5Mbps maximum

Audio codec

AAC, 48khz sample rate maximum, 1 or 2 channels (mono or stereo)

Video codec

HEVC or H264, progressive scan, closed GOP, 4:2:0 chroma subsampling.

Video posting to LinkedIn

In LinkedIn videos will be auto-played natively in the feed as shown on condition that the video meets all the requirements listed below:

File type

ASF, AVI, FLV, MPEG-1, MPEG-4, MKV, QuickTime, WebM, H264/AVC, MP4, VP8, VP9, WMV2, and WMV3.

Max file size

Minimum file size should be 75KB and maximum file size is 5 GB

Video length

The minimum video duration must be 3 seconds, and the maximum video duration is 10 minutes.

Aspect ratio

Between 1:2.4 or 2.4:1

Resolution range

256Γ—144 to 4096Γ—2304

Frame rate

10 – 60 frames per second

Bit rate

192 kbps – 30 Mbps

Orientation

Vertical videos are cropped into a square in the feed.

If the video doesn't meet the requirements, it will still be published, but to view it, it will open up in a separate tab.

Video posting to TikTok

File type

.mp4, .mov or .webm

Max file size

1 GB

Video length

The minimum video duration must be 3 seconds, and the maximum video duration is 600 seconds.

Aspect ratio

The minimum height and minimum width of the video must be 360 pixels.

Frame rate

The minimum frame rate of the video must be 23 FPS, and maximum frame rate is 60 FPS.

Video posting to Pinterest

Videos posted via our platform are now auto-played on Pinterest when published. In the past, it looked like an image, and it would open a separate tab where you could play the video. But now it got better!

Here are the video specs that Pinterest recommends using:

Minimum 4 seconds, maximum 15 minutes

Recommended length for video ads: 6 to 15 seconds

Aspect ratio

Shorter than 1:2 (width:height), taller than 1.91:1. We recommend making your videos square (1:1) or vertical (2:3, 4:5, or 9:16).

Video posting to Twitter

Video posting to Twitter via PromoRepublic is usually easy. There aren't usually many problems with it. Here are the specs that should be met, otherwise the post won't be published and marked red in the calendar.

0.5 - 140 sec (2 min and 33 seconds)

Aspect ratio

Between 1280 pixels and 1024 pixels

The minimum height and width must be 32 pixels.

Frame rate

30 or 60 fps recommended, not to exceed 60 fps

Video posting to Facebook
