Why is Local Ranking important?

Local ranking is the best way to understand which keywords are performing well in your area when searching for local businesses, products, and services near you. It helps local businesses and franchisees align their SEO efforts properly, giving local consumers more prominence at the intended moment.

Targeting the correct search terms is the cornerstone of an effective local SEO strategy. It is the only way to focus on the words that your target customers use to find your product or service in local searches. We encourage you to learn more about local SEO and local ranking here.

Setting Up Local Rankings

In order to access the Local Ranking report, you first need to set up your locations with the necessary information to see the desired result and track the ranking health. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do it for each location individually. To do it in bulk, navigate to this article.

1. Find the necessary location in the list and open its settings.

2. Navigate to the Local Ranking section and click 'Start Using Reports'.

3. Proceed with filling data into the fields.

☝️It is essential that you do it correctly to ensure we can collect the information for the reports. No worries, let’s break down each field step by step.

📍 Address

Such fields as street name, number, city, etc., are mandatory because we need to know exactly which particular location we should collect data for. If you filled out the address tab correctly before the Local Ranking appeared, you are lucky: click on the blue Fill out information from the Address Tab button a bit above, and information in the Address Fields will automatically appear.

📍 Language

We should be aware of which language influences the search results in your region. Please select it from the list.

📍 Site Type / Matching Logic, Tracked Site or Phone or Identifier

We need an identifier to match your exact location with the address you provided above. It helps to give you the most relevant results for you.

  • The Site URL of the website you want to track if selecting Exact Website URL. This is typically used if you want to track an exact URL, such as a Yelp listing, Facebook Page, etc.

  • Phone number of the business if selecting Phone Number

  • A unique identifier contained in the text of the SERP result if selecting Identifier

Please enter the value for one of these available tracking methods in this box, and also enter Maps Business Name - it is an exact business name as it appears in the Maps SERP results.

We use different identifiers for search engines to ensure optimal location matching and rank calculation. This approach considers all sites, including those like Google Place CID, ensuring more optimized and accurate results for your tracking needs.

📍 Search Engines

It is available in four search engines: Google Organic, Google Maps, Google Mobile Organic, and Google Mobile Maps. PromoRepublic selects Google Organic and Google Maps search engines by default. You can change the selected search engines. Pay attention to whether you select Google Maps or Google Mobile Maps.

📍 Keywords for Local Search

The keywords that you want to track. You can enter up to 4 keywords here.

4. Finally, in order to start tracking the data, push the Save button and wait for about 40 minutes. Once the report is collected, you can find it in the location settings.

👉 You can change the report settings to other keywords or search engines. To do so, click on Edit, and all the fields will be editable again. Once you are done, we will allow you to select and recalculate your report now or change it in the future (scheduled date).

👉 If you want to stop tracking keywords for the location, deactivate the blue toggle above. We will not collect results for this location from now on. You can switch it ON at any time you need it to be resumed.

We collect the results every two weeks. So, if you got your first Local Ranking report on, for example, Nov 21, the next day when you will get a new result is Dec 5. An exceptional case is if you change your settings and select the Recalculate option.

Once your first report is collected, we can show this information in the Local Visibility Analytics. All your following local ranking reports will be automatically added there.
