Instagram account types

Sometimes, you may see your Instagram post in the Calendar as published, but it isn't in your Instagram account. Most probably, you have connected your Instagram page as personal. As you can see below, there is a division of Instagram account types when connecting one:

  • Instagram Business

  • Instagram Personal

Manual posting

According to the Instagram API, automatic posting is supported for Professional (business) and Creator* Instagram accounts but not for Personal ones. This means that you'll have to use the mobile app to manually post to Instagram Personal. If you're interested in automatic posting, we suggest reading this guide.

*Note: For Creator accounts, auto-posting of stories is not supported.

Here is a step-by-step guide on the post-publishing process to an Instagram personal page through the PromoRepublic mobile app.

Why are posts indicated as published?

Let's review the manual publishing process quickly.

  1. You schedule the post on your computer or mobile, and when it's time for the post to go live, you get a reminder on your phone to publish the post manually.

  2. On your mobile, click the Post button to start the process.

  3. The next step indicates that the caption will be automatically copied, you can simply paste it.

  4. Then, select whether you want to post it on your feed or as a story.

🔴 IMPORTANT: At exactly this moment, the post is considered as published by PromoRepublic, so it is marked accordingly. The PromoRepublic app can't track the publishing process any further, particularly in the Instagram mobile app. If you could not complete the flow in the Instagram app, it means you didn't publish the post.

To publish the post, find it in the Published section of the PromoRepublic app and complete the flow. For automated posting consider changing your Instagram page type to Professional.

My Instagram page is a business page

If you know that your page is Professional, you might have connected it as personal. The image above demonstrates how you can identify whether it is connected to business or personal.
