What is an Instagram Business Profile, and why is it needed?

Starting from 2016, Instagram has divided account types into Personal, Creator, and Business. Converting a page to a Business Profile enables direct automatic posting through PromoRepublic, and it also unlocks additional reporting metrics in PromoRepublic's reports.

How to identify what type of account you currently have?

Open the Instagram app on your mobile device, navigate to Settings, and then Account.

If you have a Personal Profile, you'll see an option to switch to the Professional type.

If you have a Business Profile (Professional), you'll see two options: switch to Personal Account and switch to Creator Account.

If you have a Creator Profile, you'll see these two options: switch to Personal Account and Switch to Business (Professional) Account.

How do I convert my Instagram profile to Business (Professional) type?

Converting to a Business Profile is free and easy. Please find the detailed instructions for converting your Instagram page here. It is very essential that you don't miss a step where you need to link this Instagram page to a particular Facebook business page as guided here. This is the key condition to connect an Instagram business page to PromoRepublic.

I have converted my Instagram profile, and it is already connected to PromoRepublic. Do I need to reconnect it?

Yes. Even if your Instagram page is a Business Profile, it must be connected as Business (see the picture below), but NOT as Personal. Disconnect the page as guided here and re-connect as Business.

IMPORTANT: Upon the page reconnection, the scheduled not yet published posts will not be published. In order not to lose them, we suggest saving the posts to the My Ideas section and then rescheduling them.

What features and limitations will be available with Instagram Business Publishing?

It will allow you to start receiving additional reporting data and updated functionality such as direct publishing.

Posts will be published automatically, similarly as it works with the rest of the social networks that we support. Note that direct publishing is limited to single-image and single-video posts. It is possible to post carousels (up to 4 photos) manually. Instagram Business publishing is limited to 25 API-published posts within a 24-hour moving period. According to the rules, direct posting to Stories is not supported, so it means that you will have to post manually as instructed in this article.

You can utilize the First Comment option for Instagram, too! It's possible to create, schedule, and automatically post the first comment on your Instagram posts, available for all PromoRepublic users.

Below are the technical requirements for images, videos, and post captions that you want to publish through a third-party service as PromoRepublic. Please mind them, otherwise, posts that don't meet these technical specifics won't be published and will be marked red in the Calendar.

Caption: Maximum 2200 characters, 30 #hashtags, and 20 @tags (mentions).


  • Maximum file size: 8MB

  • Aspect ratio: Must be within a 4:5 to 1.91:1 range

  • Minimum width: 320 (will be scaled up to the minimum if necessary)

  • Maximum width: 1440 (will be scaled down to the maximum if necessary)

  • Height: Varies, depending on width and aspect ratio

  • Formats: JPEG


  • Container: MOV or MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14), no edit lists, moov atom at the front of the file.

  • Audio codec: AAC, 48khz sample rate maximum, 1 or 2 channels (mono or stereo).

  • Video codec: HEVC or H264, progressive scan, closed GOP, 4:2:0 chroma subsampling.

  • Frame rate: 23-60 FPS.

  • Picture size:

  • Maximum columns (horizontal pixels): 1920

  • Minimum aspect ratio [cols / rows]: 4 / 5

  • Maximum aspect ratio [cols / rows]: 16 / 9

  • Video bitrate: VBR, 5Mbps maximum

  • Audio bitrate: 128kbps

  • Duration: 60 seconds maximum, 3 seconds minimum

  • File size: 100MB maximum

I followed all of the steps, but my Instagram posts still aren’t posting.

Please check the Facebook settings of the page connected to your Instagram Business Profile. If the audience is not set to Public, the post will fail the same way as Facebook one will. You will need to remove SocialPost from Facebook Settings and then reconnect the Instagram Business Profile with the audience set to Public.

The necessary Instagram business page is not listed in PromoRepublic ('No pages to connect').

Please make sure of two key requirements:

  1. This Instagram page is indeed a Professional Account

  2. This Instagram page is linked to a particular Facebook business page.

  3. In case it is, check the settings of the Facebook business page and the Review Connection button as instructed here.
