What is Average Local Rank?

Average rank is an essential metric in PromoRepublic's analytics toolkit on the Leaderboard in theΒ Local Visibility dashboard.

It helps you understand your Google Business Profile visibility compared to your competitors or industry benchmarks. This guide explains what Average Rank is, how it’s calculated, and how you can use it to make data-driven improvements to your local SEO strategy.

The leaderboard displays the rank of locations across 4 search engines and their average rating for the chosen time.Β

Average Rank is a metric that represents the average position your Google Business Profile location holds in local searches compared to similar ones across four search engines supported in PromoRepublic: Google Organic, Google Maps, Google Mobile, and Google Mobile Maps.

It helps you assess your locations' relative local visibility and engagement performance, offering insight into whether your listings are performing above or below the benchmarked local competition.

How is it calculated?

πŸ‘‰ The sum of search engines is divided by the number of search engines. The calculation is is based on 4 ranked keywords.

For example, Google Organic Average is 11, Google Maps Average is 44.5, Google Mobile Organic Average is 12 and Google Mobile Maps Average is 45. The sum of these numbers is 112.5. The second step is to divide the sum by 4, and we'll get 28.1, the average local rank for this location.

πŸ‘‰ It is also counted even if there are no numbers for one of the search engines. In that case, the sum is divided by 3.

For example, Google Organic Average is 0, Google Maps Average is 24.3, Google Mobile Organic Average is 1 and Google Mobile Maps Average is 4. The sum of these numbers is 29.3. The second step is to divide the sum by 3, and we'll get 9.8, the average local rank for this location.

Why Average Rank Matters?

πŸ‘‰ Average Rank allows you to measure your listing performance against that of your competitors.

πŸ‘‰ Monitoring changes in Average Rank over time helps you gauge the effectiveness of your overall content and review management strategy.

πŸ‘‰ Understanding your Average Rank is crucial for shaping a competitive, data-driven review management and social media strategy. By monitoring and analyzing this metric, you can make informed adjustments to your content to enhance its reach, engagement, and overall performance.
