Requesting Removal of a Google Review

How to submit a Google Business Profile review removal request through Reputation Manager.

Reputation Manager now lets you submit a review removal request for Google Business Profile (GBP) reviews that may break Google's review policies β€” fake reviews, spam, off-topic posts, or content from people who were never customers. You raise the request directly from the review; the PromoRepublic team then reviews your evidence and disputes the review with Google on your behalf.

πŸ’‘ Why this matters for your brand

For a multi-location brand, reviews are where reputation is won or lost β€” and where franchisees are most exposed. A single fake or malicious one-star review can sit on a location's profile for months, drag down its local ranking, and cost real foot traffic. Left to each franchisee, disputing it means figuring out Google's process alone, usually giving up.

This feature turns that into a structured, brand-controlled workflow: the franchisee flags the review with evidence in a couple of clicks, and a central team handles the dispute consistently across every location. You get fewer policy-violating reviews lingering under your brand name, a consistent standard for what gets challenged, and a franchisee who feels supported instead of stranded β€” without HQ chasing Google case by case.

⚠️ Before you start: grant agency access to your Google Business Profile

This is required. Google does not offer an automatic removal API β€” our team disputes each review through Google's own channels, and to do that we need management access to the Google Business Profile behind your locations.

Before submitting removal requests, add PromoRepublic's agency Google Business Profile account as a manager on your GBP (or the relevant location group). Without this access, we can raise the request internally but cannot act on the dispute with Google.

Your PromoRepublic Customer Success team will provide the exact agency account to add and can walk you through granting access in your Google Business Profile settings (Business Profile β†’ Settings β†’ People and access β†’ Add).

Details

Enabled per White Label

Review removal is enabled for your edition by PromoRepublic β€” if you don't see the option, it hasn't been activated for your account yet.

Google Business Profile only (v1)

Facebook, Yelp, and other networks aren't supported in this release.

Rating cap may apply

Your white label may be configured so only reviews up to a certain rating are eligible (for example, 1–3 star reviews). If no cap is set, all star ratings can be eligible.

πŸ€– Removal likelihood estimate (AI-assisted)

Before submitting, you can click Estimate removal likelihood. This runs an AI check that compares your review, chosen reason, and evidence against Google-style review-removal policy signals, and returns:

  • A score from 0 to 100

  • A low / medium / high policy-fit estimate

  • A short explanation and the matched policy area

  • Suggestions to strengthen your request

This is an estimate, not a guarantee. It reflects how well your request appears to fit review-removal policy β€” not the odds that Google will remove the review. Google makes the final decision. You can submit your request regardless of the score, and even if the estimate doesn't load.

πŸ“¬ After you submit

  • The review card shows a status badge so you can see a removal request already exists.

  • Duplicate open requests are blocked β€” you can't file the same request twice while one is active.

  • If a request is rejected, you can submit a new one later with new or stronger evidence.

Our team then works the case through Google's dispute channels. Because this is a manual process on Google's side, timelines vary and there is no fixed SLA.

βœ‰οΈ Email updates

You'll only be emailed when a case reaches a final outcome, not for every internal step:

  • Removed β€” confirmation that the review was taken down.

  • Rejected β€” an update that the removal request wasn't successful.

Emails come from your brand's sender/branding where applicable.

πŸ“Œ Good to know (v1 limitations)

  • Available only where enabled for your White Label.

  • Google Business Profile reviews only.

  • An optional rating cap may limit which reviews qualify.

  • Text and link evidence only β€” no file uploads yet.

  • No guaranteed removal and no SLA β€” Google makes the final call.

  • The AI estimate is advisory only.

  • Removal requires that PromoRepublic's agency account has management access to your GBP.

❓ FAQ

I submitted a request β€” is the review gone?
Not automatically. Submitting creates a case our team disputes manually with Google. You'll get an email when there's a final outcome.

The AI estimate came back low. Should I still submit?
Yes, if you believe the review violates policy. The estimate is guidance, not a gate β€” you can submit at any score.

Why do you need access to my Google Business Profile?
Google has no automatic removal API, so our team files the dispute directly through your profile's Google channels. That requires our agency account to be a manager on your GBP. Without it, we can't act on the request.

Can I request removal of a Facebook or Yelp review?
Not in this version. v1 covers Google Business Profile reviews only.

My brand doesn't show the "Request removal" option.
The feature is enabled per brand. Contact your PromoRepublic account team to have it activated.
